About
Bio
Hill currently resides in Brisbane, Australia investigating her painting practice from her home studio.
Working full time as a Personalisation Artist for Louis Vuitton, Brisbane.
Born January, 1980, Katrina spent the majority of her youth residing in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia.
From an early age she was enticed to the act of drawing and painting, influenced by the beauty of the area as well as television and film of the era. Katrina would draw upon 80’s graphic novels, morning cartoons and traditional painting techniques of local teachers in the area.
After graduating year 11, she continued her education with the creative arts studying at the Whitehouse School of Design, Sydney. After finishing with a Diploma of Interior Decoration & Design, she returned to her first love of animation, and began work with the Walt Disney Animation Australia.
As technology moved from traditional illustration into the digital sphere, so did Katrina. In 2002 she relocated to Melbourne, where she would continue as a freelance illustrator while studying a Postgraduate Diploma in Animation at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Returning to Sydney in 2008 she would continue her studies at the National Art School, graduating in 2010 in majoring in Painting.
From 2015 to 2017 Katrina worked for Parker’s Fine Art Supplies while continuing as a Freelance Illustrator and Artist.
Influences
Katrina is influenced by biology & psychology behind the field of neuroscience.
“ After many years of focusing on traditional art practices and looking at the external world to influence my work, I am now looking inward, to investigate the inner workings of the human mind, including my own.”
I am by no means well educated in the workings of the mind, Neurologically nor psychologically, but have always had an innate desire to explore the ways we perceive the world, and the physical interactions in the brain with which those perceptions correspond.
In Katrina’s painting practice, she relinquishes the desire to “look & Put” looking inwards instead, with no final composition in mind.
“I draw upon an auditory process along with the knowledge of those within the fields of Neuroscience & Psychology to inform my next mark or shape. Colours are often a key factor from the outset, but ultimately it is the way shapes interact and blend that will inform the final work”
